I’ve started to see the term “Maximalist” being used and celebrated. For those of us who love stuff, it’s tempting to rejoice that we’re back in style! But before you throw out the Donate Boxes and start gathering kitsch, let’s talk about how to be a maximalist whose home is under control.

Well, I heard you say near the end of this podcast that you wanted to hear from us (listeners), so here I am!
Throughout the entire episode, I was thinking about how I’ve loved learning from you about decluttering and from Myquillan Smith about cozy minimalism. It describes, for me, the perfect balance between minimalism and maximalism. And both of your philosophies together are exactly what I need to focus in my house for it to feel like home and for me to be able to keep it under control. (Especially since my husband is a natural “maximalist” without the aesthetic part…ha!)
Speaking of that, I love the word aesthetic also! I think I remember you mentioning how much you like it in another episode. I have a colleague who does not like the word at all, and it drove her bananas that it was the best word option for a very official document we were creating together a few years ago!

Thank you for these ideas. I’m a “Bee” according to Cas. And I like the homey look. Not minimalism. What you are saying makes so much sense and affirms how I am feeling. Yes, trash has to go. And things we don’t use must go. Looking forward to your new book and have preordered already. God bless you for helping us.
