Wow this episode was really tough to listen to. Kudos to you, Dana. I’ll have to channel your ability to focus on the 5 steps when it comes time to help my MIL declutter her house.

It was really painful for me, too. Dana has the patience of a saint. I hope the dear lady was able to make some progress.

I found this really painful to listen to as well. Dana is an exceptionally kind and patient woman. The “container concept” is something everyone could learn from. I find thinking of the English monarchy helpful; I just need one heir and one spare, all else is superfluous. 😉

LOL, whenever I pick up something unusual and ask myself “where is the first place you’d look for this?” the answer is almost ALWAYS “in my closet.” My closet is actually the closet of the “guest room” which we use as a computer room. So while my clothes and shoes are actually nicely organized, it does tend to be even more of a catchall closet than the hall closet. I need to start getting a tad more specific – AND find a real place for all the unhoused items that clutter up the one shelf. This may be the exception to the rule “declutter the places other people see.”

Listening to you again recently gave me an ah-ha moment about containers versus threshold. I’ve had a “proper” desk in my “office” for years that holds everything when it’s in order. But when the space is not in order, it’s vomited all over itself and the floor frequently, finally I made the connection that it’s beyond my threshold to maintain. Meanwhile, I had a small pretty antique desk not being used in another room, so now I’ve decluttered and consolidated into a more micro desk area that’s soooo much more manageable and cute. Thank you, Dana!

Patience of a saint yup. Couldn’t get through all the verbal clutter and regretfully had to stop listening halfway through.

Yes, I really enjoyed this conversation! I am always amazed of how much the decluttering really is therapeutic. Dana you do such a great job. When the other person is asking a question I try to predict your answer – and so often you will totally surprise me with your answer… and your insight and this is a ah-ha for me. Thank you!
