Mmmmm, Bacon. (How to Order in Bulk from Zaycon)

Mmmmm, Bacon. (How to Order in Bulk from Zaycon) at ASlobComesClean.com

Y’all know I’m a fan of buying my chicken from Zaycon. Their prices are extremely competitive for boneless, skinless chicken breasts. I love the quality, and stocking my freezer with forty pounds of chicken at once means I don’t need to watch sales for a while.

I’ve always been sold on the chicken, but I’d never ordered bacon until recently when Zaycon asked me to write this post about the ordering process in exchange for an order of bacon!! (As hubby says, now I’m really bringing home the bacon.)

The current price, 3.79 per pound, is less than I can buy anywhere else right now. I occasionally find a great sale for 2.99/lb (it’s RARE though), but those sales always place a limit on how many packages can be purchased in one transaction. Getting 36 pounds of bacon at once for that price . . . is exciting.

So how does Zaycon work?

Zaycon holds “events.” Go to their website (through my referral link) and enter your city under “events” to find one in your area. Pay attention to the date, time and location. Zaycon delivers orders via a refrigerated truck to a designated place at a specific time. They do not deliver your order to your home. There is a 30 minute window to pick up your order on that specific date. Check your calendar before you order to be sure you’re available to pick up at that (very) specific time.

If there is one near you, you can order whatever item is being offered for that event online. Payment is made online, and you will receive a receipt via email. Bring that receipt to the pickup place at the pickup time, and some nice person will load your order into your vehicle!

I have a Zaycon folder set up in my email so I can find my receipt easily.

You also need to plan for time to separate your meat into meal-sized portions for freezing. (You don’t want to freeze a big block of meat!) With chicken, this is a HUGE job, but I’m excited to see how much easier it is with the bacon.

Other tips for ordering through Zaycon:

  • If you’re scared to purchase THAT much chicken or bacon or whatever, split the order with a friend.
  • Write the pick-up date on your calendar. I put it on the calendar in my phone and set reminder alerts.
  • If you’re not sure about ordering, go ahead and sign up for Zaycon’s emails. You’ll get a notice whenever an “event” happens near you.
  • From experience, I can tell you not to wait if you know you want to order. The events do sell out.

Look for another post soon about my pick-up experience and freezing method!

What have you ordered from Zaycon?

Disclosure: I’m being paid in bacon for this post. For some reason, that statement makes me strangely giddy. The referral links are also mine. That means I get a $1 credit toward my future Zaycon orders every time someone who signed up through my link makes a purchase. Anyone can use a referral link. If you sign up and love it, be sure to refer your own friends and family through your own referral link. Every little bit helps!

I am so sorry to say that it seems Zaycon has gone out of business. I say “seems” because the information I’ve seen says they’ve “suspended” operations and I don’t fully understand what is happening. I’m so so sad about this since this will change how our family keeps our freezer stocked with meat. We’ve been ordering almost all of our chicken, bacon, and shrimp for them for more than five years. If you had ordered recently, I recommend that you call your credit card company or bank (for debit cards) to see what can be done. I’ve heard many people have had success doing this.

Dana, I’ve ordered bacon from Zaycon twice, and both times it was really really good. Thick sliced, very meaty without a lot of fat. Relatively speaking of course — all bacon is fatty, but it wasn’t mostly fat. It was more meat than fat. .

My bacon orders came in a box about the size of the lid to a case of computer paper. So, like 11x17x3, or thereabouts. 36 pounds of bacon seems like it would fill a much bigger box, but it doesn’t. If that gives you an idea of how much freezer space you’ll need.

It’s much easier to re-package than chicken because it’s all pre-sliced nice and neat. I just laid out a piece of heavy-duty foil, laid a handful of bacon on and wrapped it up, then put multiple foil packs in a few large freezer bags. It only took a few minutes. Chicken is a lot more work.

You can also get away with leaving it in the fridge for a while until you have time to re-package, unlike chicken that needs to get into the freezer pretty quick.

I’ll warn you — Zaycon chicken is SO good that your family will probably go through 36 pounds faster than you think.

That’s honestly been one of our hesitations in the past! “Will we eat bacon six times a week if we have that much??”

Your posts about Zaycon intrigued me. I looked them up, and am excited there is an event near me! All the bacon is sold out (I guess everyone in IN/OH/KY love their bacon!) for months! I asked me mom if she wanted some chicken (it’s half price compared to my butcher shop), and she asked if it was sold from a truck. I know it is, but I know it’s not in the way she’s thinking, either! So I think we’re going to give them a try, even if I have to eat 40 pounds of chicken myself. I make up freezer meals, so I’ll have those recipes ready to go 🙂

Michelle- I’m in northern KY. I had the exact same experience when I asked my mom if she’d go in on “truck meat” with me. I had some fun with the idea, though I haven’t done it yet. My mom and I do bulk freezer cooking too. If your from the Greater Cincy area, perhaps we could split an order, or even do some assembly-line freezer cooking together. Shoot me an email if you’re interested! [email protected]

I’ve ordered bacon twice before, third order due to pick up next week, and it has come in prefrozen 3 pound packages.
The only thing I’ve bought from them that we didn’t care for was the sausage links. The flavoring on them wasn’t very good, at least to my families taste buds.

Love you inspirational cleaning posts (still laughing about that extendable fork from your silverware drawer!) FYI, your referral link has a space at the end that is making it fail on my end. I deleted the space and hit refresh, and then it worked! 🙂

Thanks for the info! Just updated the site yesterday, and when I went in to change it, I can’t edit or add any links!! (But I guess it’s good I know that!)

only chicken near me, no bacon 🙁 so sad. and the chicken price went up before i could order, so now it’s actually *more* expensive than the chicken breasts at my grocery store.

The chicken breasts from Zaycon are hormone and additive free…that might play into your price comparison…..

The bacon even is of course sold out. I’m trying to see if any of the women from our group of friends would like to go in with me on the chicken though. All I have is the itty bitty freezer on top of my fridge so there is no way I could store 40lbs of chicken. I could possibly get 20 in there if I let my husband pack it! Has anyone tried Zaycon’s fish or the waffles? My kids would eat eggos for every meal if I let them.

“(As hubby says, now I’m really bringing home the bacon.)”

    LOL!
Bet your hubby was pleased with himself with that one 🙂
