I’m a problem solver.
Often, though, I’m solving problems created by me.
Blergh.
While decluttering my closet last week, I ran across an example of my resourcefulness. A familiar example.
I’ve had many versions of this handy-dandy homemade tool over the years.
It’s a hook. A hook made out of a wire hanger.
The purpose?
To get something off of a shelf in the closet when I can’t actually get into the closet because the floor is covered in stuff.
I untwist the top of the hanger, straighten it out, and hold onto the doorframe while standing on one foot and leaning in to reach that blonde wig (or whatever) on the top shelf.
Rarely does it take only one try to get it.
Rarely does only the item I need come falling to the ground.
I am resourceful.
Yes. Resourceful.
We’ll call it that.

Oh, sooooo recognize that process with the homemade hook. Since I’m somewhat vertically challenged, it doesn’t take much for the need for height assistance to emerge. You may wish to happy dance with me: I have de-cluttered the master bathroom, master bedroom and have only added a very very little bit to the catch-all room. Trash man will have a (big) surprise tomorrow!
So sorry about your family canine friend. They do, indeed, leave paw prints on your heart.
I do this too! But I use it to unclog the vacuum hose, or clean out the drain in the bathroom. It works well.
Those hanger hooks are also good for unclogging a toilet when someone uses way too much toilet paper. I am resourceful, too.
My younger son was visiting one day and asked if I had a wire hanger. Of course! He had a CD on the back shelf of his his car where fingers just couldn’t reach. Problem solved!

I’m always pulling out the grilling tongs or that clawed utensil for spaghetti for the same thing ; )
LOL…I was just about to post that Heather! When I decluttered my master bath a couple of weeks ago, I found the grilling tongs my hubby had been looking for all summer, I am sure I had used them to reach something I could’t get to due to the clutter mess.
Wire hangers are great to get the kitty cat’s toys out of the space between the fridge and the cabinet. 🙂
I had a wire hanger to clear the sink drain, but then I bought the Draino that comes with the plastic piece to clear the drain. I was having to unclog the sink a couple times a month, but when I used that thing, it cleared it right out and I haven’t had trouble since!
Tonight, I cleaned my the top of my appliance cabinet and the shelf over it. That consisted of combining boxes of tea bags into a contain-er, throwing out cereals that we didn’t like enough to finish, and deciding to part with several vases that I never use because of lack of space. When I get a place large enough to display flowers, I’ll buy a new vase.
Oh, I love that attitude!
Our vet wanted my husband to collect a specimen from our diabetic Basenji,Wilson. I smugly said “good luck with THAT” and walked away grinning. My husband used a red cup taped to a wire hanger… It didn’t take him 30 seconds on a walk with Wilson and he had his specimen!! Genius!
Now I can say my disorganized house makes me be resourceful, or I can keep saying organized people are just too lazy to look for things. Looking for stuff is how I get my exercise,stepping over stuff,climbing up stuff,lifting piles of stuff.Boy,you got my funny bone going this morning.
