The Post with Ambiguous Pictures

declutter the game cabinet get ready for garage sale at ASlobComesClean.com

I’m having a garage sale.

Soon.

Last week, I really thought that I would somehow get it together for tomorrow.

Har-dee-har-har-har!

Ohhhhh, let me catch my breath!

OK.  Yeah . . . that’s not going to happen.

Anyway, last week I cleaned out THE CABINET.  The Last Resort Cabinet.  It’s where all of the things I’ve decluttered over the past few years but couldn’t bear to actually get rid of went.  Totally-useful-but-never-used stuff.

Maybe even stuff that was given to us . . .  but that we never actually used.

Maybe.

Sooo . . . my pictures are ambiguous.  An increasing number of friends and family members are reading this blog.  Yes, that does give me heart palpitations.

Anyway, that’s why there are pictures of very-full black trash bags at the top of this post.

That’s the garage sale stash of really great stuff that we don’t need.  Really great stuff that I don’t want the kids to see until we put it out for the sale.  At that point, they will likely choose a few things (that they never knew they loved so much) to keep, but I don’t want these treasures visible until then.

Here’s a picture of the two shelves I cleaned out.  Let’s just say . . . they weren’t quite that empty when I started.

One of the biggest reasons to have a garage sale?  A deadline.

I love donating to the magical truck that comes by about once a month. That’s great motivation to continually purge things from my home.  But having a garage sale is even better motivation to dive into the places I can so easily ignore.  And to purge with gusto.

I mean, if I’m going to get up at 5 a.m. to haggle with strangers, I want every last nickel I can get.

And here’s a webisode about this decluttering project: (If you’re reading by email, click through to the post to watch.)

And now, my books are available to help you with your deslobification journey.

My decluttering efforts came to a stand still I’m sad to say: My donation spot got full–and I had no black trash bags to haul it all away! A month. It took me a month te remember to buy them (We use something different for actual trash).

But, I have them now. What I don’t have is a truck to haul it all away in. A garage sale? You are brave! I hate folks pawing through my stuff–at best haggling over a quarter–at worst scorning it. Doesn’t matter I’ve rejected it–I don’t like other people to do it! I’ve only ever done two–one for my Mom and one for me–and e didn’t make enough to offset the slow agonising pain of parting with things one by one over to days only to be left with a pile of stuff to get rid of anyay.

Just finished your archives (loved em) and now I feel like can post too! I don’t do the garage sale. I would start digging through the bags and pulling things out that I can’t live without. So I have to drop off donations about twice a month and I put them in my car until then. At least I know I won’t go out to the car and dig through the bags and boxes….usually.

Yay! Now I can get your book on our Kindle. Maybe I’ll actually do it now. 🙂

Hope your yard sale project goes well. I don’t do so well with a deadline usually, but I can see how others would. I wouldn’t attempt a yard sale without some major help from other family members. LOL Of course, since most of the stuff in our garage that needs to go belongs to other people….ahem…. 😉

Guess what you are getting for Christmas, darling daughter? A large economy size of your favorite unscented laundry detergent. Umm-hmmm. Maybe you won’t put THAT in a garage sale. Your mother.
