It Could Happen to Anyone

Sometimes (okay, lots of times), I get a little over-dramatic when I find a mess somewhere that is extra sticky or extra embarrassing.

I tend to say things like, “WHY oh WHY do these things happen to ME!?!?!!”

I take messes personally.

But I’m not taking this mess personally.

A little over a week ago, I was unplugging my phone so I could take it to church to use as a prop for a scene.

Just like any normal person would do, right?

I was in a bit of a hurry.

Just like any normal person would be, right?

Anyway, as I grabbed the phone . . . I saw that under it was something icky and sticky and brown.

And unidentifiable.

Now, I’m not claiming that your phone has something icky and sticky and brown and unidentifiable under it right now.  But I am claiming that this could happen to anyone.

Because the icky and sticky and brown and unidentifiable stuff was ONLY under the phone.  Like, the rest of it had been wiped up when it was a little less icky and sticky and probably identifiable.

Yes.  I was a little embarrassed to have to wipe the underside of the phone in front of people after I got to the rehearsal, but just normal person embarrassed.

If I had known that there was icky stuff splattered across the entire counter and had left it for days/weeks/months on end . . . that would be something that could only happen to a slob. I know, because things like that have happened to me in the past.

But a totally hidden mess?  That could happen to anyone.

It’s nice to be an anyone.

Oh, and just so you know . . . it was almost impossible to wipe up, so I tried the same “trick” I use with dried-up pancake batter.  It not only worked, it actually disintegrated the icky, sticky, brown, unidentifiable stuff!  Wonder what it was . . . .

And on the bright side, at least the phone was not actually glued down to the counter top with the icky, sticky stuff. Cause that could happen to anyone. Right?

I found a mystery/stick stain on my kitchen countertop the other day. I’m not sure where it came from…but I suspect it was from when my dad was juicing oranges!!! Fortunately, all I needed was a little soap and water to clean it up…Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂

I keep kids in my home m-f, those types of messes seems to be a daily thing with me too. Those unidentifiable drink cups and food bowls is what kills me. I hate finding myself asking “what is/was that, and when did we have that last?”

I tried the dried-up-pancake-batter trick just yesterday on – ahem – dried up pancake batter from Saturday, I think. Worked like a charm. You rock my world, Nony!

I bet it’s gravy or BBQ sauce.

You are right. That happens to us normals too.

Just discovered your blog and can only say it’s so good to find another “normal” person out there! I may never be on the cover of Homes and Gardens, but at least I’m not the star of that new show “Hoarders”….yet. Looking forward to the laughs and encouragement as I tackle the little messes of life one day at a time.

Good for you Nony. I am reading so much more about ‘normal’ on your blog. I am getting there too. Just bought your ebook today. Definite progress, as you have tagged this post.

Looks like it was probably spilled soda or coffee, both have sugar and get syrupy when they “dry”. My vote is coffee 🙂
