Delusions of My Future – I’ll Suddenly Be Efficient

Delusions of My Future – I’ll Suddenly Be Efficient title at ASlobComesClean.com

I lost a button.

An important button.

On my favorite shorts.

My favorite shorts that actually fit.

And my natural thought process went along these lines:

“Oh, I just don’t have the time to deal with this right now.  After school starts, I’ll be able to stop and deal with things like this and do things like sewing on buttons.  Plus, the house will be much more organized and I might have a clue where the button is.”

Mmm-hmm.  Delusional.  That’s me.

Really, if I don’t stop and sew on a button on a summer day, I’m not going to do it on a school day.

Now, I’m not trying to say it’s okay to just ignore clothing repairs because of how my brain works.  I’m saying it’s NOT OKAY to ignore them.  I should be doing this now.  Waiting until I “have more time” is an excuse, and I need to stop making excuses.

And just a little tip in case you’re prone to lame excuses regarding button-sewing, IF the zipper is one that stays up on its own, just fold the button tabs in, and wear a long shirt.

I may be a procrastinator, but I’m also practical.

Wear them with a belt. Problem solved. 🙂

      A belt? Fabulous (and totally-obvious-now-that-you-say-it) idea. Now . . . I wonder where my belt(s) could be?

I lost TWO buttons over the weekend. On capri pants that FIT. They do. The only explanation I can come up with is that I was really stressed and overzealous in my undressing. I don’t know. But I highly doubt I will sew on either button. I should. But, really? I probably won’t.

OK Mary. I so want to replace the word “stressed” in your comment, therefore making it funny and inappropriate.

      But I won’t.

      Hee hee.

At least your pants still do up……..I’m spending a rather depressing day trying on all my work clothes to see which ones I can still do up this fall….which is turning out to be almost none. Bleh.

I relate all TOO well. Which is why I was so depressed about this particular pair losing its button!

There’s a cool notion on the wall at any JoAnn’s Fabrics: a no-sew button that you apply with a hammer. I’ve heard them referred to as “bachelor buttons” since no needle and thread need apply. I have a ton of them around for pants that lose the button.

I will have to look for that, Ila. Sounds like exactly what I need to keep on hand!

Yes!! I was just going to suggest this! My WalMart sells “dungaree buttons.” They are no-sew and don’t even require a hammer–just snap them together. I’ve bought several packages and put them where I know they are *supposed* to be. Ya know, with the other sewing stuff. Awesome quick fix for the sewing-buttons-back-on-challenged me! 🙂

This would be a perfect time to teach one of my children how to sew a button on….. because they are home its summer and they have nothing else to do. So when it happens say during the school year they can effeciantly sew it on while I am driving them somewhere (or else they might have to miss….. while I stay home to sew buttons:). Several problems solved there and I am teaching my children how to take care of themselves (and uhmmm others:) and about frugality. WOOOHOOO! good thing this was not me today or I would never have been able to come up with the logic to convience my 6 year old she needs to learn to sew on buttons.

Delusional and full of excuses – yep – describes me to a ‘T’
Admitting it outloud is sooooooo freeing and a sign of growth. Good for you!
I’ll add this to my “Nony says . . . ” voice in the back of my head when I find myself putting off what could/ought to be done today.
