Daily Checklist 3/7/11

I don’t think that I posted a daily checklist last week at all.

Maybe not even the week before.

And I can feel the difference that it makes.  Even though the house is leaps-and-bounds better than it was pre-blog, not consciously doing my daily checklist means that I skip a few things here and there.  And when Sunday evening comes around and it’s time to open the front door to guests, there’s quite a bit of work to do.

The good news is that it doesn’t take that long to get it in order.  The better news is that when I DO consciously do the daily checklist (even almost every day), there’s just not that much to do.

When that’s the case, I can take a much-desired-Sunday-afternoon-nap without having to plan to get up in time to get the house ready.

So here’s today’s incomplete checklist.  I’m heading up to work at my son’s school, so I’m justifying not doing everything.

I’m good at justifying stuff.

Wiped down kitchen cabinets.

Loaded dishwasher.

Shopped for this week’s groceries, only forgetting the really important stuff like laundry detergent for Laundry Day and salt which we’ve been almost-out-of for weeks.  Seriously, we’re down to a few grains.

And as much as I’m trying to think of something else that I’ve done . . . I can’t.

Why the picture of the watermelon?  I splurged at the store this morning, and am overly proud of myself for being able to wash it in an empty sink and cut it up on a clear counter top.  Like I wrote last week, that’s a pretty big deal for a slob.

And it’s pretty.

Your checklists are inspiring to me, thanks for posting one today!

But, I must say, while reading through today's check list, my no-where-near-normal-very-much-a-slob-brain was thinking 'Why the picture of watermelon? sure it's pretty and sets my mouth to watering, but what does it have to do with loading the dishwasher and starting (or not starting) laundry?'

So, thanks for clearing that up! I can now move on to checking on laundry progress here and wipe down the master bathroom (things on my checklist)

I just HAD to comment on this post. I have been reading your blog backwards (spending entirely too much time on this task when I should have been cleaning…cleaning something…..cleaning anything!!) I was going to wait to comment until I was caught up but the ‘watermelon’ spoke to me! I seriously understand your excitement about the watermelon! I cannot tell you how many times I have bought watermelon (among other things) that I end up wasting because either it gets lost in the black hole (aka refrigerator) or I just don’t have the room to wash, cut, etc. Your blog and honesty are refreshing. You make me realize that I am not alone. The shame that comes with being a ‘slob’ is sometimes overwhelming and literally very depressing. I have shed many a tear over this ‘snobbishness’. You have inspired me and I thank you for that.

    Oops….I meant ‘SLOBbishness’ not ‘SNOBbishness’!
